Pace bands

I am getting down to thinking about the nitty gritty for the Lochaber marathon. I decided to do a pace band as in my last marathon I found my brain gave up computational powers at around mile 15! So I printed one off – there are various sites you can download them from by inputting your chosen finish time – here are a few of the sites

Marathon Guide

It then struck me that in my race strategy (sounds good!) I will be running the first two miles much slower than the rest to give myself time to warm up properly and ensure I don’t go off too fast. So the standardised pace band isn’t much good as it assumes you’re running an even pace. So out came the old Excel spreadsheet and I’ve devised my own one allowing for two slower warm up miles.

Danger is, knowing how accident prone I can be, that I trip over my own feet/run into something/get run down (delete as appropriate) as I coordinate looking at my pace band and pressing buttons on watch to compare time. Mmmm….Could be a risky business especially when the brain becomes a bit befuddled in the later stages.
