Ditch encounter

I am starting to become slightly paranoid about filling in entry forms. The last time I filled in an entry form I fell down stairs at work, hurt foot really badly and missed the race. As you know I have just filled in both a half marathon and marathon race entry forms and…….tonight I landed in the ditch and am currently lying with my leg propped up with a very bruised and cut knee.

Details of what happened are pretty vague,.. I was about 3.5 miles into a 7.5 mile run when I found myself lying face down on the grassy (and muddy) side of the footpath having tripped (probably over my own feet knowing me!). Some poor motorist has probably reported sighting of a distressed female to the local police for all I know.

The joy, of course, of being 3.5 miles into a 7.5 mile run was that I had to run/hobble/grit teeth/curse/swear my way back for another 4 miles – managing just to avoid another total collision with a pedestrian on a dark stretch of pavement (he was dressed entirely in black) and a close encounter of the canine variety with my ankles.

I have a feeling that perhaps I am not the best advertisement for this running/fitness lark for my colleagues at work as since last May I have fallen and cracked my ribs, fallen and injured my foot and now fallen and hurt my knee. And no – I wasn’t on the G&T’s energy drinks!

PS I am going to run this half marathon and marathon even if it kills me……
