Read an interesting bit in my free Metro paper the other week on the bus. Research carried out by the US National Cancer Institute found that exercise can cut the risk of cancer – the interesting bit however was that the benefits of exercise could be wiped out by sleeping less than 7 hours a night.
Kind of reinforced the point to me of the importance of a holistic view of life. Exercise on its own, while good, is not enough. Healthy eating (most of the time at any rate!), sleep and relaxation time are just some of the other important components in achieving a balanced, fit and healthy lifestyle. And of course, not getting too obsessive about any of these things – the odd late night, pizza, chocolate or missed run is not going to be the end of the world!
